Celer is an experimental/minimalist ambient duo founded in Southern California in 2005 by Will Long and Danielle Baquet-Long at the start of their romantic relationship. For several years, the couple released more than a dozen very limited edition recordings in handmade packaging. Tragically, Baquet-Long died of congenital heart failure in 2009. Long continues to release recordings they had made during their all-too-short time together. Evaporate and Wonder is the latest, now available from Experimedia, and it's stunning. makes me think of William Basinski. lovely.

    • DrunkenOrangetree

I hadn’t heard his stuff before. Thanks for the tip.

  • DrunkenOrangetree

I love this kind of stuff. Kyle Bobby Dunn is doing something similar and is also worth checking out.

    It’s quite lovely.

  • MikeM

Very nice.  I clicked through to buy the music, but you have to sign up and log in first.  I did want to give them my $7 and download the .flac files but, as it turns out, I don’t want yet *another* user name and password even more.  I guess that’s too bad for me, and too bad for them as well.

Sorry you found the digital purchasing experience inconvenient Mike.  Unfortunately our current system (new one in the works) which was mainly built for physical sales requires login.  Please take into consideration Experimedia is merely a 1.5 man DIY shop and label operation started with nothing but some pocket change, webspace, sacrafice, a ton of ramen noodles, coffee, and a whole lotta love… with that in mind I like to think our site is rather nice. :)  But thats just me.

However maybe the bandcamp option would work better for you.

Regardless thank you for your interest.  That in itself means a lot.

    • MikeM

Thanks for the bandcamp link, it was exactly what I needed.

    • Ambiguity

Agree with Mike that the music is very nice, and I agree that login-less purchases are something you may want to look into when you get the time. I know I tend to use internet vendors who don’t require a login more, and I imagine that a lot of folks do, too.

      Anyway, good stuff!

Thank you.  Digital only purchases without login is on the coding block for the new site we are working on slowly but surely from the ground up.  Unfortunately the login is too hardwired into this system to get around for the time being however.  Always appreciate constructive criticism.

Heck yah, didnt know the boing boing peeps were this deep into the diy internet REM-state sound artists. much respect..

In grad school, I photocopied tons of articles from the school library (every one vetted for copyright, of course). I fantasized about copier toner with RNA in it, such that you learned the article content in the act of copying.  I suppose eating books might work the same?

  • Jon-Christian Yates

So glad to see Celer getting some attention.  Danielle was a wonderful human being and dedicated educator. Her passing came as a huge shock, but the music indeed lives on, and completely blows anything that passes for “drone” or “ambient” these days out of the water. Can’t recommend Celer enough!

  • Brendon B

uh it’s a post about the album

Then what are you talking about? The term was used to describe the music, not necessarily the photography. Which, by the way, only appears blurry because it is low-res. Bah, forget it man.

  • Ambiguity

You’re one of those folks who are never wrong, aren’t you?

Oh, and to answer your question: minimalist isn’t a synonym for poor photography. Glad I could clear that up for you!

Now now.  Shame to see so much negativity flying around this.  Abe is entitled to his opinion.  One of the great freedoms of the internet.  Work like this certainly isnt for everyone.

Personally I find there is so much good to appreciate and speak positively about for each of us personally… it is difficult to justify spending time being negative about the things we dont like.

Each to their own as the cliché goes.

“eat any good books lately?” – picturing that made me laugh… that’s positive.  Curious if one would one get smarter if they ate books?  Sounds like a premise for a bad Hollywood sci-fi flick.

Thanks to David for sharing this!  It means a lot to all of us involved.

Roboton, don’t attack the other commenters.

Abe, don’t you have anything better to do than crap in comment threads?
