  1. Ralidius says:

    Well, there you go.

    • Cowicide says:

Nothing can tame the raw power of all this Christian, homophobic, self-loathing, closeted-homosexual angst.

      • jetfx says:

The pavement appears to have been doing a pretty good job.

      • thisisdavid says:

exactly what I was saying just this morning! I don’t think Mr. “Most Serious case of Gay Face ever” Russell is going to be in the closet much longer though eh? ;)

        • waetherman says:

Masturbating in public, vandalizing cars, and running through traffic in your underwear isn’t really a “gay” thing.

          • Cowicide says:

            isn’t really a “gay” thing

Agreed.  It’s really a Christian, homophobic, self-loathing, closeted-homosexual angst thing.

  2. snakedart says:

what is this i don’t even

  3. Just when you thought the story couldn’t get any weirder…..

  4. MrEricSir says:

Sounds like he’s putting those “donations” to good use.

  5. Brainspore says:

It was my understanding that the whole “KONY 2012″ campaign was basically one long act of public masturbation.

  6. irksome says:

    “Under the influence of something”?

  7. IronyElemental says:

“The SDPD suspects Mr. Russell was under the influence of something.”

    Probably hubris.

  8. Datavist says:

Obviously a part of the slacktivist manifesto. Once the viral vid has been forgotten about by the 99%, it is time to hit the streets to really rev things up and what better way than spanking the monkey in public. Clearly his act of self-flagellation is representative of Kony’s treatment of children and the car vandalism symbolises the Western world’s obsession with the material over the moral. This guy really is a next level agitator.

  9. Certainly under the influence of public hatin’

  10. llazy8 says:

wait, I was just hating that organization.  Now, however . . .

  11. i_prefer_yeti says:

Maybe Hippie Gap’s got a San Diego franchise?

  12. C W says:

I’m SO surprised that a pious fraud of an evangelist was caught doing crystal meth and committing sex acts in public.

    What I’m actually surprised about:

    1) There were no mirrors in sight
    2) There’s no quip from the sex worker who had to listen to him drone on about himself for hours as foreplay.

As always in these cases, I still feel bad for the partner who gets stuck with this douchenozzle of a narcissist and the constant humiliation they put them through at every part of the “forgiveness- seeking” process.

Those are just as insincere as their original act.

    • Marc Mielke says:

I wouldn’t feel too bad. I’m a great listener, and when I was still on drugs would score a lot of free drugs listening to self-loathing addicts about how this was their last big hurrah before they quit. If you have a Kindle or something it isn’t that bad.

  13. chellberty says:

    Cocaine is a helluva drug.

    • C W says:

      Cocaine seemed his usual braggadocio.

Running around in his tighty whities and smashing windshields? Man, that’s pure megachurch-pastor grade meth.

  14. YamaraTheGod says:

He’s only invisible when people aren’t looking at him.

He’s known about this power since he was a child.

  15. Stefan Jones says:

This is so strange that  I’m struck snarkless.

  16. Cocaine’s a Hell of a Drug!

  17. Teller says:

Sad. You go worldwide and the first thing you do is show your ass.

  18. taraine1970 says:

Running in traffic is  pathognomonic for crack to meth use, at least in my ED.  Plus, we LOVE when the police bring us intoxicated, out of control ‘celebrities’.

  19. Rob Gehrke says:

Clearly he was overcome by the Spirit. You all are so jaded.

  20. “Kony made me do it!!”

  21. Marco Antonio Morales says:

“Under the influence of something” “because of statements he was saying” … Am I the only one who feels the whole article was put through Google translator?

  22. Graysmith says:

You reap what you sow, and boy did he sow.

  23. voiceinthedistance says:

I think we all need to take a deep breath and let Kirk Cameron sort it all out.

    Keep the faith.

  24. saurabh says:

This is probably the shortest arc for any public figure I’ve ever seen, from darling to doubtful to down in flames took – what, ten days? Can anyone think of a briefer crescendo and subsequent conflagration?

  25. luther_blissett5 says:

My latest viral campaign is simply meant to raise public awareness about vandalism, public masturbation and drug use. It’s not the answer, but if it kickstarts a conversation and encourages others to spread the word, then it’s a success and I’m proud of it.
I expect all of you to follow my example for Cover the Night on 4/20!

    • C W says:

      Keeping the faith, brother!

      • luther_blissett5 says:

That’s great, but remember to buy the Action Pack which has all the tools you’ll need to spread the campaign. It has a poster, stickers, pamphlets, solidarity bracelet and thong underwear.

  26. Gideon Jones says:

    Aaaand there’s video:

I shouldn’t be laughing this hard.  Especially if it turns out to be a mental health issue. But still…

  27. Must be the Illuminati got to him. Can’t have any upstart international cults interfering with the master plan. Some big potential donor takes him out for a congratulatory dinner, some amphetamines and rohypnol slip into his virgin margarita, better luck next time theocrats!

    • TestSalad says:

Or he was just a drug-abusing propagandist who blew all Invisible Children’s profits on coke and decided to do what came natural to him.

  28. TestSalad says:

Bad people usually get what they deserve; seen here with this propagandist.

  29. Garrett Eaton says:

    The internet giveth.. .

  30. Susan Carley Oliver says:

“[the police] determined that medical treatment was a better course of action than arrest.” Wow. Privilege has its privileges.

    • rattypilgrim says:

       That’s the truth.

    • That’s probably because it is a better course of action to medically treat a mentally ill person than to incarcerate them.

      • Funk Daddy says:

        Also hella less paperwork.

      • Julie Mango says:

Except that California prisons are full of mentally ill people who don’t belong there. None of them rich, white guys, though.

        • Oh, okay. So I guess we should wrongfully throw all the rich white guys in jail too. Because why solve problems when you can just get revenge on those who don’t have them?

          • spejic says:

People ignore problems that don’t effect the rich white guys. If the wrong was done to him, maybe people would hear about it and do something about it. This way it’s guaranteed nothing changes.

          • Julie Mango says:

Throwing all the rich white guys in jail would solve a lot of problems.

          • NI MEN HAO-DY TRAMPOLINA says:

…says the mansplaining privileged white dude.

        • Aron Briggs says:

its called 5150 and you will find mostly homeless people with schizophrenia being taken in under it.  as for the racial remark it is true that when people from other cultures come to california they are far less likely to report their relative as mentally ill because it would be frowned upon where they come from.   it isnt until a violent crime is committed that they are forced to turn in the relative who could have easily been picked up as 5150 any time before the criminal act.

  31. Malnutrition, exhaustion and dehydration? How long was this guy masturbating for?

  32. hankchapot says:

Well, if your video went viral with umpteen millions of hits and everybody was talking about you on all the talk shows, wouldn’t you go out a celebrate?

  33. Michael W. says:

I just watched the video of this and have learned I’ve been masturbating the wrong way my whole life.

Evidently you put your butt in the air and slam your hands down on the concrete sidewalk like an irate highland gorilla’s first trip to the big city.

  34. Amsterdaam says:

Hey, he did say that this was all about exposure.

  35. Touch Sensitive says:

    Kony, Bony.. Sony?

  36. Wow! this can’t be good for the organization. However, it may actually bring some publicity and maybe get more donations. But I don’t think anyone will be taking them seriously anymore.

  37. VaughnMarlowe says:

    Somebody dosed him.

  38. vinegartom23 says:

    Couldn’t wait for Hitler’s birthday I guess.

  39. Snig says:

I wonder who should play him in the inevitable movie.  I could see Owen Wilson enjoying the role.

  40. slagmacg says:

You’re all overreacting. The Invisible Children guy was clearly wearing invisible pants.

  41. Snig says:

I wonder if his actions can be explained a deep love for this country.  Which he was trying to hump in its entirety, intersection by intersection, and possibly stopping to mate with American made cars.

    • Funk Daddy says:

more like he finally snapped, for ever since he can remember, or at least puberty, far back in the niggling of his aural pendula, rang a siren song almost unheard, but impossible to ignore for any amount of praying.

*cue club music BUFF BUFF BUFF BUFF BUFF

      Repression’s a bitch

  42. BarBarSeven says:

So does this mean Web 2.0 is officially over?

  43. he was listening to this, well, ‘kony inspired’, acid house music!

  44. Jason Matte says:

Can we try for a little empathy? He seems like a good soul. I hope through the support of his friends and family he can overcome whatever demons he is fighting. His heart is in the right place. We need more people who care like he does.

  45. anywayanyhowanywhere says:

I am not saying that masturbating and running around naked in public is WRONG….but if you are looking for moral guidance on international issues….

  46. blueelm says:

To be fair, I would *not* be surprised if the guy is bipolar or something though, just given the rest of the story. Not saying he is, just that actual mental illness wouldn’t seem too far fetched. All that said, I still think he’s an ass.

  47. BarBarSeven says:

So is there a BB thread on another narcissistic liar? Also known as, Mike Daisey? Seriously, is “white man’s burden” the hot new trend for Spring 2012?,0,5114583.story

  48. Al Corrupt says:

Hope he feels like sh#t for putting his own child in the middle of this.

  49. Antinous / Moderator says:

    Is it just me?

  50. Jonathan Roberts says:

This definitely wasn’t  just a publicity stunt, but I have no idea what it actually was. Sounds like someone was raising way too much awareness (or whatever his name for it is).

  51. BarBarSeven says:

STOP JUDGING HIM! This video explains even less of this.

  52. thisisdavid says:

it just keeps getting better doesn’t it Kids? I for one can’t wait for this hypocritical and dangerously junior demagogue wanna be closet case nut job to crack, and if today’s events are anything to go by, that shouldn’t be much longer…

*tents my little gay hands like Chancellor Palpatine in wicked glee* ;)

  53. I’m surprised no one connected the dots on this one yet:  Fapping + Vandalizing cars = Auto-Eroticism.

So was that worthy of a Ruby Yacht Award?

  54. Palomino says:

  55. bo1n6bo1n6 says:

    Bath  Salts.

  56. Thebes says:

    CIA tool breaks.
    Story at 11.

  57. creamneuron says:

    Maybe he was on ROFLCOPTER?

  58. eltiki says:

You might as well enjoy your 15 minutes while you can!

  59. andre paris says:

sounds to me as if he either had a psychotic episode brought on by stress or he was forcibly drugged because he pissed off alot of powerful people who wanted to discredit him, and you all took the bait, if however he had a psychotic episode then you should want to help someone when they are sick, that none of you can see that is a really sad statement

  60. Deidzoeb says:

“He was no problem for the police department however, during the evaluation we learned that we probably needed to take care of him.” What do you know, the cops use the same terminology as the gals at the massage parlor. “Take care of him, finish him off, give him what he paid for.” That was mighty sympathetic of them to help him with that.

  61. snagglepuss says:

So it turns out that Russell and Limbaugh have yet another thing in common.

  62. Palomino says:

Um…… “Masturbating in Public” is subjective.

And I don’t think his penis has to be exposed to get charged for masturbating. I know of a man who’d cut holes in his pant pockets so he could masturbate on the city buses (He would pretend to tie his shoes and look up women’s skirts/dresses). He was arrested by undercover cops for masturbating in public.

  63. starfish and coffee says:

Maybe he wanted to test if he really was invisible?

  64. Rudy Belova says:

He wasn’t so invisible now was he? lol

  65. BBNinja says:

    Bony 2012?

  66. Brilliant.

From Super hero, to suspicious evangelist, to meth induced public fapping all in a week.

Maybe this is all a huge and perfectly executed smear campaign by Kony.  If so, then well played sir, well played.

  67. BBNinja says:

Better keep this guy away your children, regardless of their current state of visibility.

  68. Sounds more like a psychotic episode, usually triggered by stress. I think the guy’s a jerk, but that doesn’t mean I take pleasure in his health problems. Most of you are just as  ignorant and close-minded as the person you are criticizing.

  69. I’ve found a rather interesting thread that seems to point to the use of bots to inflate youtube views (particularly the 30 million mobile views in 48 hours, for a half hour video which would usually be primarily by PC views)

I wonder if this is true? If it is, I hope they get caught.

  70. Another article about the mobile views hack

It seems that Kony 2012 may have hacked some 30 million of their views

    • Just finally, the distribution of views they have is rather interesting; that Mongolia and the DRC were providing as many views as countries like the US, Australia and the UK. Not suspicious at all
