Thrive's Nike has a recipe for making rainbow-striped jello Easter Eggs, using Kraft's "JELL-O JIGGLERS Egg Mold." She advises coating the mold with generous amounts of cooking spray, then using a syringe to add layers of color, chilling for 10-15 minutes between each layer.

I still remember fondly filling blown eggshells with liquid jello and letting them set in the fridge in an egg-carton, making "hard boiled eggs" that were filled with jello instead.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

This is a fantastic idea, but I worry about salmonella.

The residual albumen taste would be enough to keep me vomiting for a couple of days.

Are we to believe you’ve not had worse in your mouth?  :D

about 1 in 30,000 eggs are contaminated with salmonella, removing the whites and yolk should reduce the risk even further, but it’s basically a non-issue that gone blown out of proportion.

Plus, you could just (gently) rinse it out (well) with hot water.

You could also drain the egg, beat it, divide it into little bowls, color the mixtures and put them back into the shells to be steamed.  Voila, rainbow eggs made with egg.

i assume plastic easter eggs would work just as well as real eggs, the plastic ones you crack in half. just cut a hole in the top of those, pour in the jello. i will have to try it now.

I bet they’d be even better with alcohol added. :)   For the adults of course.

These may be the most beautiful food I’ve ever seen. But I am a huge sucker for rainbows.

Sextuplet rainbow!!!  *cry*  What does it mean?!

We used to take the shavings from the crayon box builtin sharpener, then float them on boiling water, then drop in the (already cooked) egg. Take it back out with a spoon and you had a psychedelic multi-colored egg!
