Foster Wattles' The Woods sinks into a perfect atmosphere—dark, haunted woods with weird technological things going on—but I can't get past the snowstorm! Last year, Wattles, a student at the Maryland Institute College Of Art, released Untitled, a silhouetted side-scrolling adventure in the Blade Warrior/Limbo tradition. The sound design is by Rubriq. If you like web-playable walking-around-in-the-woods-and-surviving games, I heartily recommend Make No Wonder as well.

Hmmm, I’m not convinced that there *is* anything beyond the snowstorm.

Skeptical-me thinks it’s an easy way to make a 2-minute game that seems artsy and leaves people wondering if there’s more.

Nice me thinks this could be fun as a complete game.

I love a game with no discernible goals or objectives that involves running around from room to room, clicking on things that do nothing and having other items run away from you.

If you keep walking right, the blizzard gets denser and denser.

Or up, or down, or left, or random directions… there must be some clue.

8 screens and it’s a whiteout. I basically walked in an oval back to the original screen to confirm.

You get the exactly same screens by moving in different directions – if you draw the tree layout you’ll see it doesn’t make a difference.  That’s not to say there isn’t any way that makes a difference.  But with no clues trying to choose 8 moves correctly is not a feasible thing to brute force.

It is kinda retro and eerie.  Me likey!

I tried the Zelda Lost Woods trick. . .  North, West, South, West.

    Nothing.

  • opcws

Yeah, I’m not finding anything either. Just 8 screens then whiteout.
