England's Metro newspaper reports that parents may now hire an evil clown to stalk their children.

Deville is not an escaped lunatic or some demonic monster. He is a birthday treat, hired by mum and dad, and the ‘attack’ involves being splatted in the face with a cake.

‘The child feels more and more that it is being pursued,’ said Deville.

Adds Stephen Vaughan of Clowns International: "I think what Dominic is doing is a great idea. Bringing a little bit of life and laughter into kids’ lives is what we are all about."

Does anyone else know “the clown joke”?

    • Antinous / Moderator

Does it involve a talent agent and a family of four?

  • CH

Yep… it’s all fun and games until the therapy bill arrives in the mail.

Maybe the idea is that it will be easier in adulthood to pinpoint the single moment in childhood that fucked you up.

A week of clown stalking would give enough pinpoints for a freaking Seurat exhibition.

Wow, that website is a model of sparseness. One image, one sound, one mailto link.
But then, where did you guys get the quoted text ?

Just what every kid wants– To be forever known in school as “that kid who shit his pants on his birthday because of a clown.”

I was just planning on tossing my kids into a ball pit filled with snakes for their next birthday.

My father dressed as a clown for my eighth birthday party and I wouldn’t come down out of a tree (clowns can’t climb, duh!) until he washed the makeup off. All the children were angry with me for spoiling the fun, naturally. If I had an EVIL clown chasing me I would have been the spry, forward-thinking hero.

In a just world, everyone would understand that “evil clown” is redundant. You were the spry, forward-thinking hero; you just didn’t get the recognition you deserve.

(Which is not to say your father was evil, by the by. He was merely a victim of evil, like the possessed.)

I love the reference to the child as an “it”, as though children aren’t human.

  • LawGeekNYC

Well, a lifelong phobia of clowns makes it less likely your child will become a Juggalo.  So it’s a public service, really.

    I smell a prank!

    Let’s look at the facts:

    * Deville claims that he spends weeks stalking the kids. You pay someone to dress as a clown for a party for one hour for $50 to $70. You’re telling me that parents pay that much per hour to have their children stalk for a few weeks?
    * There is no information in the article on how to get in touch with Deville or pictures of him interacting with kids. You’d think if they were doing an article about Deville, they’d ask him for a few pictures of him with kids.
    * On his website, their are no rates, no pictures, just an email link, and two links to PR companies that specialize in prank style events.

The clown-at-the-party thing? That only works on Saturdays from noon to 6PM. Nobody hires clowns on Wednesday morning.
