Ot from the Dutch technology activist group Bits of Freedom writes, "Good news from The Netherlands: on 8 May 2012 The Netherlands adopted crucial legislation to safeguard an open and secure internet. It is the first country in Europe to implement net neutrality in the law. In addition, it adopted provisions protecting users against disconnection and wiretapping by providers. Digital rights movement Bits of Freedom calls on other countries to follow the Dutch example." (Thanks Ot!)

That’s good new. I hope they’re willing to act on our behalf here in the US when the revolution starts.

Hurrah! Now I finally have someplace to move to as Canada’s becoming more draconian by the day and the UK is trying to make it the ISPs responsibility to police the internet (demonstrating an astonishing lack of understanding on how the technology works).  Congrats Netherlands.

The Netherlands tempt me more everyday.  They don’t get everything right, but they certainly know how to run a society over there.

Hahaha, here in the Netherlands we used to say we’d move to Canada if the government got up to too many shenanigans :)

That’s the weird thing, on the one hand we just turned Net Neutrality into law, and on the other hand Stichting Brein forced major ISP (Ziggo and XS4ALL) to block the piratebay. And then yet to counter that the Dutch Pirate party set up a proxy that subverts the whole thing.
    Yeah, it’s a crazy country.
