The E3 trade show already has one winner—Ubisoft's upcoming Watch Dogs—but resentment at Microsoft and Sony's inane press events, light on new titles, was the order of the day. John Walker at RPS sums it up: "I wonder how long it will be until the reality of the industry will be represented in these events. ... so long as the attending press sit there whooping until they vomit, perhaps that will be a bloody long time."

If you’re actually interested in the games, try attending Pax or PaxEast. By gamers, for gamers, with lots of table top and rpg game space as well.

While there are usually a few session of upcoming games, they’re usually games people actually want to see and they tend to have more gameplay and less fluff to them.

Exactly. For some reason, people are expecting E3 to be like Comic-Con for gamers and that just isn’t what it is. It’s about the gaming business and is aimed at investors.

People are expecting E3 to be like ComicCon for gamer because, up until a few years ago, it was almost exactly that. It’s only recently that it changed its focus.

well, Jack Tretton said at this year’s E3: “this is the super bowl for us”

maybe no one told him he prepared for the wrong show?
