the archaic word for lungs is lights

I’ve always wondered whether ‘punch your lights out’ refers to lungs or to unconsciousness. I’d like to think it’s lungs.

I used to work for our state road authority and one dark night one of our road patrols came across a place where a drum of medical waste had come off the back of a truck. Guy called in on the radio …couldn’t believe it there are arms and legs everywhere.
