If your day is in the doldrums, I present "Oh god, did you put something in my drink" (presumably not the original title, though who knows?), 3:17 worth of sheer freakout.

Oh god, did you put something in my drink (Thanks, Joeyx!)

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Eurovision 2013: An American in London

The technology that links taxonomy and Star Trek

  • http://ipadkids.com/ Marc Wasserman

She is getting such a kick out of her own dancing, it’s impossible not to laugh with her.

    • dumbbunny

Favourite dance move: driving the bus.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5YLGMJCYK76SRG7ZT5D34ZHNQE T

It’s so good, I couldn’t watch the whole thing. She’s one of those old Robert Crumb comix come to life! My belly is still hurting from the sheer elan of the whole thing!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1514949644 Timothy Jeffries

Just FYI, this is a music video from the band Orphic Oxtra but the music was changed. The original is far more superior :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5BdyIGtYcg

    • http://deansli.st/ Dean Putney

That really is superior. The weird movements make a lot more sense in this context, and the title is all kinds of yes.

    • Navin_Johnson

No way Jose, it’s so much better with the Omar Souleyman jams.

    • Antinous / Moderator

Didn’t we have this on BB a couple of months ago?

      • bobkat

I think I saw it on Dangerous Minds?

      • http://www.xradiograph.com/ OtherMichael

I just assumed you were on summer repeats.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Robert-Drop/100000929402049 Robert Drop

Watching the original video made me laugh all over again.  It makes a lot more sense in context.  That is, if “sense” is the right word when talking about one of the members of a giant Icelandic klezmer group doing ironic go-go moves on top of psychedelic video.

  • http://www.nunoncastors.co.uk/ James

    All of my wat.

  • lysdexia

She and M.I.A. should start a dance troupe!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Robert-Drop/100000929402049 Robert Drop

I suspect Sigrún Jónsdóttir might be too busy touring with Björk as a musician.

  • Ultan

[puts down the menu]  I’ll have what she’s having.

    • dumbbunny

And hell, throw caution to the wind and make it a double.

  • http://illustratorhints.com/ Jesseham

Oh god, did you put something in my Boingboing?

  • Vengefultacos

You totally see her ass at 1:00. (Well, OK, someone’s ass… not totally sure its hers.)

    • Just_Ok

      it was shooped

    • Mantissa128

The occasional cleavage was okay too. Music was good, psychadelic freakout was stellar, but it needed way more of her dark-haired friend who showed up only briefly at 1:49.

  • davide405

I believe this is the girl with kaleidoscope eyes :-)

  • theviceprovost

Wish I was as impressed as y’all;  guess it’s not only white GUYS who can’t dance.   Gorgeous eyes and smile — a woman one would love to meet, but the whole vid just was a little too contrived.  Loosen up (and try less textured (if any) upperunderclothes).  23.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jim-Kelly/692448753 Jim Kelly

You can’t fool me — that’s Jack Black in a wig and a leotard.

  • http://thebeatdown.disqus.com Franklin

I think I know that girl.

  • oasisob1

Soccer ball go-go boots, fake eyebrows and weird reversed hair flips; I’m in love.

  • Teller

    She was terrific in “Manhattan.”

    • http://www.gyrofrog.com/ Gyrofrog

I was going to say, I think this is a Hemingway.

  • kansas

That was just what I needed. Now I need those boots.

  • gumbowing

Isn’t that Miss Vladivostok 2005 starring in a Kazakh pop video?

  • http://www.markcrummett.com crummett

lexamzz is probably wondering how (s)he suddenly got an extra 100k views. Thanks, boingboing!

  • Roi Truax

    Love the tiara…

  • billstewart

Remember kids, if somebody offers you a green screen, Just Say No!

  • http://johnstonsigns.blogspot.com/ dejoh

I got up and danced with her.

  • robdobbs

Looks to me like someone is trying to hard to be a meme.

    • Mike Johnson

and such a cliche, too! Learn the clarinet, join a Balkan pop orchestra, get access to a green screen. Dime a dozen.

  • blueelm

I remember that scarf video. No, really.

    • llazy8

I shuddered! The memories came flooding back, and I couldn’t stop them.

  • elchip

Three+ minutes of toe-tapping funkapsychedelica. That’s the good stuff.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_UWDFQHLRCTYZIOWFK3UZK223WI Rusty Shackleford

This is making me very happy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000335676462 Mona Tara Morgan

Thanks, BoingBoing!  Not only did I enjoy this video, but the YT suggestions led to a great cache of weirdness.

  • mesocosm

It’s as if the unconscious Dude hallucinated Lakshmi in the form of a Nordic Richard Simmons.

    • http://disqus.com/Kimmoth/ Kimmo

I’m in awe of your descriptive abilities.

  • Jake0748

I liked the part where the Frankenstein cat came in.

  • http://twitter.com/bennglazier Benn Glazier

It’s the Omar Souleyman version of Björk’s Tesla.

  • Richard Pusateri

I reported my soul taken at 2:40.

  • Bob Corrigan

Looks like an ad for Shrim.

  • Rich Keller

The video was by Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir. Now I have an understanding as to how Icelanders can believe in elves.

  • pjcamp

    More donkey.

    • Just_Ok

      more donkey bell

  • Mitchell Glaser

    Gott in himmel!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003148091873 Emily Sosandso

While many parts of that where certainly entertianing, even funny, parts of that video will haunt my nightmares forever…  Those lack of eyes… or the lascvicious upnod.. *shudder*

  • JhmL

    whatisthisidonteven @_@

  • Anon_Mahna

so this is what brown acid is like……..

  • Richard Dagenais

The dancing girl is Sigrún Jónsdóttir and I just discovered a trippy new band.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgjUXqj6yps

  • Just_Ok

So, who is going to post about this in the thread about Mind Blowing Movies?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nell-Anvoid/100002383626402 Nell Anvoid

Someone…somehow…has GOT to get this into the opening ceremonies for the GOP convention later this year.

    …Just because…

  • batesman

Kudos for the very hip choice of music, Omar Souleyman, I believe,

  • Jorpho

I saw this in passing a while ago and was kind of waiting for it to show up somewhere again.  At first I thought it was Leslie and the LY’s, but they would be sober in comparison, I suspect.

  • smallteam

I’m sure she’s a nice person and all that, and I have experienced my share of altered states… but for some reason I’m getting this Vishnu “I am become Time, the destroyer of worlds” kind of vibe from her incessant smiling and dancing atop the cosmos. Maybe it’s the eyebrows?
