The latest Datamancer keyboard is the Seafarer:

Coming Soon! We recently decided to try our hands at some brass-casting and this is the first result, "The Seafarer", an intensely ornate, nautically-themed keyboard with a worn-in, weather-beaten aesthetic. It features a gold foil map faceplate, protected by thick acrylic, spiral cut rods, and engraved gold metallic keys.

We plan to make several more cast brass designs in the near future, so feel free to join the mailing list to stay informed of their availability.

The Seafarer Keyboard

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

    “Temporarily SOLD OUT.”

Shut up and take my money, already!

  • m0nkyman

If only I had a couple thousand dollars worth of truly disposable income.

  • First Last

It looks like it would be a pain in the ass to actually type on.

  • Datamancer

Hi everyone, This was a “one-off” I made for a client, but I liked it so much that I decided to make it a standard production model. The keyboard is very usable, but this prototype does sit a little bit higher than most. I’m going to clean the design up quite a bit in the future and make it a somewhat lower, more compact, and more ergonomic design.

I think if you made this design available in the sub $100 range you might make a gazillion dollars.

If you make it better to type on than the average USB keyboard, you might make 2 gazillion dollars.

Captain Nemo is looking for his keyboard.

  • Liam Hamon

I wish I had some kind of suitably epic steampunk game to play with this.

  • Cpt_Nemo

No, cpt_Nemo is certainly NOT looking for this keyboard.
