Camera Comics was published in the 1940s by the US Camera Publishing Company to spur excitement among youngsters around amateur photography. Along with the exciting tales of Kid Click, Linda Lens, and Jim Lane, Insurance Investigator, the comics also included HOWTO projects, like the above "Make A Pistol Grip For Your Camera." Camera Comics (accidental mysteries)

A pistol grip for your camera may have seemed like a good idea back then, but today it would probably get you shot. And in Florida it would be legal to shoot you.

I want a pistol grip for my iPhone.

I filmed a bellydance show last night using a Panasonic HDC-SD90 fitted with a grey painted metal pistol grip from a 1960s movie camera. It really makes it far easier to hold it steady. It may have vaguely looked threatening, but I didn’t hold it out in front of me like a pistol, and I was in Canada, so it was OK.

”… and I was in Canada, so it was OK.”

My first digital camera was an Argus Phazer, which looked like a little ray gun.

I’d be very nervous to use it these days.
