"For the second time in a month, scientists have announced that a simple blood test, rather than more invasive tests such as amniocentesis, can determine a fetus's genetic make-up, identifying mutations causing any of about 3,000 inherited disorders that arise from a glitch in a single gene, such as cystic fibrosis." Oh man, Team Jesus is going to be unhappy… If my informal surveys of the more enthusiastic elements are to be believed, comparatively noninvasive assays for serious inherited disorders (and, honestly, anything that allows women who have the temerity to get knocked up additional information on which to make choices) are approximately indistinguishable from eugenicist nazi death camps.

I’m not a member of the Jesus branch of the fetal-rights team but my reaction is that now we can obtain embryonic stem cells from the bloodstreams of pregnant women.
