Overheard at Comic Con: The Walking Dead will be around for a while

The creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman offered up this quote concerning the end of the series:

We have talked about an ending that we’d do if we ever got to that point, right before our joint suicide, but with the popularity of the comic, and now the show, I don’t see an end anytime soon.

So, that's a "No" on the end of the comic, right? Good to know.

I hope the show ends before the comics. Long before. Not because I don’t like the show, but because those things tend to max out after about 7 years as salaries go up, actors get bored and viewing figures erode.

The comics could run and run so we’ll get to see how (or if) society gets rebuilt. Will Glen or Andrea be in charge of the group in 5 years? Will the walkers have slowed to a stop in 1o? Who has what it takes to survive and raise a family? Might the group eventually move back into a city? I’ve no idea, but I like the idea of this world being around for a long time.

The TV show managed to outlast Frank Darabont. I have a hunch the comic will outlast Robert Kirkman.

  The big difference it that Robert Kirkman owns the Walking Dead, so no one can kick him off and replace him. I don’t think the series will continue with out him nor should it. One of the more interesting things about independent comics like this is having one voice, one writer work on a series long term and have the characters change slowly from their story arcs, rather than various creative teams going in different directions, often with a bit of a disconnect with the history of the comic.
