Hmm. When my old neighbourhood was a fishing village, they used broken oyster shells in the streets where others might have used gravel. Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis.

I wonder what its for. I believe they used to burn oyster shells and use the ashes as a primitive chemical weapon since it causes blindness when it gets in your eyes, but then I could be totally misremembering a Sharp novel.
