The only US facility for "handling, processing and storing weapons-grade uranium" was closed temporarily after anti-nuke activists, including one 82-year-old nun, breached security fences. Reuters reports that On Wednesday, 3 activists cut through perimeter fences and reached the exterior of a building where highly enriched uranium, a component of nuclear bombs, is stored.

G4S…  Where have I seen that name before?

They’re the same outfit that completely screwed up the hiring of guards for the London Olympics.

    Wow, I feel safe.

Three amateurs managed to reach the exterior of an enriched uranium storage building. Imagine what half a dozen professionals could pull off.

doubleyou-teeeeee-eeeeeeeeeeeffffff?  an 82-year-old nun?  cut through two fences, then spread blood and hung crime-scene tape before apprehension?  dude, it’s a good thing I didn’t know how easy it is to bum-rush ORNL back when I was young and dumb and living in knoxville.  god knows what trouble i would have gotten myself into.

also, I’m having trouble with the last paragraph:  “Stockton said the security breach was the “worst we’ve ever seen.” He said it was more serious than the case of Wen Ho Lee, a Taiwan-born scientist who was suspected of espionage at the Los Alamos nuclear laboratory. He pleaded guilty in 2000 to a less severe charge when the case against him collapsed.”

“Suspected of espionage” because he was a slant-eye, you mean.  the case against him collapsed, all right.  it was a stupid, xenophobic witch hunt.  but why mention it at all if his prosecution was recognized as a failure?  gotta keep the drums of war beating, I guess.  after all, hippie flakes are homegrown, but never trust a red chink, I tell you.  seriously, why else would that paragraph be written?  Good to know Reuters is furthering the paranoia our keepers wish us to have.
