A truly outstanding Jim Morrison impersonator croons the theme to "Reading Rainbow," on a Jimmy Fallon show episode. What more could you want?

The Doors Sing "Reading Rainbow" Theme (Jimmy Fallon) (Thanks, Fipi Lele!)

Update: Holy cats, that impersonator is Jimmy Fallon. Chalk one up to my mild face-blindness.

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

  • Raederle

A truly outstanding Jim Morrison impersonator named Jimmy Fallon.

    • Conspirator

Yeah, it’s right there on the youtube page, Jimmy Fallon also does Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

    • Durin Gleaves

I don’t think it’s Jimmy Fallon.  This impersonator doesn’t break into a grin and flub his line halfway through the skit.  Also, Horatio Sanz isn’t doing the same.  No, this is a very meta impersonation of Jimmy Fallon impersonating Jim Morrison.  Very well done.

      • Halloween_Jack

I understand your confusion. To paraphrase one of Quentin Tarantino’s lines from Pulp Fiction, “I can’t believe it’s the same guy.”

  • Geekized

    Very well done!

  • Toby

I don’t usually care for Jimmy Fallon, but this is  incredible.  Spot on.

See the Door’s Ed Sullivan Show appearance for comparison.  The only difference is that Fallon’s dance moves are more exaggerated.

Holy crap! I’d assumed the look of the thing was merely vaguely authentic, rather than a painstakingly accurate reproduction…

      • http://twitter.com/trempls tré

In this video he talks about the lengths they went to in getting it that accurate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFieOMWRZSk

    • Halloween_Jack

I’m not sure that it would have counted as exaggerated over the Doors’ telescoped career, as Jim Morrison would often show up so drunk and/or stoned that he could barely stand.

  • GuyInMilwaukee

It’s definitely Jimmy Fallon. This track is on his new release, “Blow Your Pants Off”. Nicely done. Now if he would just stop with the idiot commercials on my teevee for whatever it was he was pitching.

    • http://disqus.com/Kimmoth/ Kimmo

Why don’t you stop the idiot commercials on your TV?

      Plug it into your computer.

  • whoknew

You guys are funny.  Cory, that IS Mr. Fallon!

  • http://twitter.com/manooshi Manel

Well done!  Jimmy Fallon is an excellent performer.  Very funny (and good-looking).

  • soithascometothis

After the first time I saw this I had the thought that someone doing a Jefferson Airplane version in the style of “Somebody to Love” would be good too.

    • Antinous / Moderator

Mr. Fallon might make a pretty good Grace Slick.

      • rattypilgrim

Janice Joplin was kind of the female Jim Morrison. He should give her a try.

        • Antinous / Moderator

Either one would probably leave him with disabling laryngitis, as it did both of them.

  • Preston Sturges

GF just threw her panties at the monitor.

    • ocker3

       why did you duck?

  • Uhclem

Sadly, Fallon does a much better Jim Morrison impersonation than the real Morrison was able to do the last time I saw the Doors.

And Fallon’s certainly a lot better than Ian Astbury. True enough, I’ve never been a Doors fan, that’s why I can speak the name of Astbury.

Still think he was great with The Cult.

  • Boundegar

    This is brilliant and wonderful!

  • Antinous / Moderator

Extra points for the effusive crotchal arrangement.

  • SignalJammer

The only way that could have been funnier is if  Carol Kaye was sitting in a chair, off to the side, playing bass

      Hey, that’s pretty sweet.

Bummer they didn’t have CGI in 1970…

      Exactly!

    Gosh!
I didn’t know the original song, so I looked it up_after seeing the video. I think it’s much cooler this way round. “They ruined that great Doors tune for a children’s show!”

  • hikerhobbit

There can be no doubt this is Jimmy Fallon.  This man seems to be a very talented music impersonator!

  • Mitch_M

This makes me nostalgic for the day the drunk lady walked up to me on State St right after I got out of the plasma center on acid and said “You look like Jim Morrison!” I like stability but I miss being 20, I miss sleeping in my Datsun 310, and I miss my hair!

  • malindrome

“Gentlemen, we can rebuild him.  We have the technology.”

  • http://germanwotd.com Amelia_G

What could be done with 3-2-1 Contact! Or Rita Moreno’s “HEY, YOU GUUUYS!”

  • malindrome

By a weird coincidence, this week’s “Dinner Party Download” features an interview with LeVar Burton (who sounds like a really cool guy), and at the end they play the Jimmy Fallon cover of the theme.

    • penguinchris

Burton is quite active on Twitter and tweeted about this last week, he liked it.

  • http://twitter.com/am_sch A. M. Schultz

    That is beyond awesome!

Jimmy Fallon continues to evolve not just as a comedian, but as an all-around entertainer. That said, this may be my favorite Fallon skit ever.
