• Two grey tiger kittens who spent hours trapped in a drain pipe were rescued by Ingham County Animal Control. Officials believe the kittens were thirsty, and did not realize that the pipes were slippery. [Battle Creek Inquirer]

• Puppies! Pongo the Rottweiler mix was rescued from a dumpster in Riverside, Ca., only hours before it was scheduled for pickup and crushing. Meanwhile, 57 puppies were rescued from a puppy mill by officers from Brunswick and New Hanover County Sheriff's department: "The raid was initially planned for next week, but ... the conditions were so bad, they had to take action earlier." • Sadly, a group of campers in Nova Scotia was rescued from a circling pack of coyotes, which will now go hungry. [UPI, which deserves much kudos for finding stock art of a disappointed coyote]

Doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s save. German police just saved a squirrel from a manhole cover. Stuck, y’know. Went back to the trees, but was found dead from shock a couple hours later.

Regarding the photo of the coyote – it was taken out of context. That coyote isn’t disappointed. It’s reading a blueprint for a rather complicated set of bat wings that it’s trying to assemble.

Cops have the same hair cut as Nazi skin heads. Why is that? What is the association? Accident? Purposeful? It is an angry, frightening appearance that isn’t much moderated by smiles and blue uniforms rescuing Bambi from Darwin.

  Really?! I think you’re reading too much into a hairstyle. I sometimes get a haircut like a “Nazi skin head”, but I can assure you I am a bleeding heart liberal. I’m just too lazy about taking care of my hair. Gimmie a haircut that is very low to no maintenance!

  I do know what you mean though, although rather judgmental, it is quite common for policemen to look like military (I wouldn’t quite go down the nazi route…) vai their hair (or lack thereof) choices.

        Well they get a bump for the post office and IRS too, its a general +5 points to any vet on any social service test. They get some sort of bump as teachers too. And it goes for the guys sorting military mail and putting gas in trucks too. Those guys are only trained to kill in the most basic sense.

  I have wet shaved my head since 1993 (it becomes addictive I find – once you’ve experienced the pleasure of a stubble free pate having even the slightest growth makes me feel slightly dirty) and have often got looks of apprehension from strangers – which still rather surprises me. I’m no fighter – unless your violently attacking me and even then my first, second and third choice would be to run away.
  Being bald isn’t the same as being bad, apart from regarding the income of hairdressers and barbers possibly.

    How many Nazi skinheads were there? You can’t be blonde and a skinhead can you? Some wannabe neo-Nazis might have skinheads but so do lots of people these days. By some people’s reckoning it would seem my local supermarket is full of gay Nazis. The original skinheads were far from racist being into ska and all. Racists tend to lack originality and often borrow dress styles and music from non-racists. That pisses me off. I have shaved my head down to half/one for the past thirty years and at least I won’t miss much if/when I do go bald.
