My car was stolen...what the fuck...

— will.i.am (@iamwill) August 14, 2012

Jalopnik reports that a bespoke automobile created for (and reportedly designed in part by) will.i.am was ripped off last night while the Black Eyed Pea and entrepreneur/fashion dude/space and science enthusiast was attending a private party at the Avalon hotel in Hollywood.

Have they rounded up the usual suspects?
Doc Brown, Marty, Biff, Glen Gulia?

For some reason a customized DeLorean seems like it might be a bit hard to fence

Maybe the police took it again?

  • godsmonkey

It was last seen accelerating past 87 MPH…

    • oasisob1

That’s weird, because I think I saw one just like it in 1985.

If it was destolean, does that mean it has been recovered?

Finally someone stole this abomination.  Thank you john q public for taking away will i am’s ridiculous hypemobile.  This was built by a shop he hired.  Its a modified delorean….not a new car or car company you silly chart topper.  It wont ever be a car company, or a source of new jobs, so stick to resampling other peoples songs into pop hits, ok?

    • Daneel

In fairness, it’s not like DeLorean was ever a car company either.

    • Brainspore

I thought the whole point of being a pop star was that you get to spend lots of money on flashy-but-kind-of-ridiculous possessions.

      • chrisdag

He has claimed in the past that this car was a NEW DESIGN by his NEW CAR COMPANY using parts from various sources including Chrysler. The internet quickly proved he was lying and had in-fact just gussied up a DeLorean. Jalopnik has the coverage and it’s kind of funny

  • Brainspore

My bet is that it was stolen by a future version of Will.i.am.

[Edit: that's funny, apparently you can't type his name without Disqus automatically making a hyperlink out of it!]

I’ve had my car stolen before. It is a shitty feeling to come up to a parking spot with some glass on the ground where your car used to be.

    • TheMudshark

I´d guess it eases the pain if you have the cash to get 100,000 new cars just like it.

Perhaps it will be found alongside my purloined customised Bricklin.
One can only hope, and I do.

While I am all for screwing with Will.i.am, I can’t imagine what someone would do with such a one of a kinda stolen car. Most car thieves want to blend in as much as possible

  • http://tokyofarm.com Spencer Cross

This was built buy West Coast Customs and they mention it briefly and show a quick shot of it in progress on an episode of Inside West Coast Customs on Velocity. Video’s here, called “Wheels for Will.I.Am”:

    http://velocity.discovery.com/videos/inside-west-coast-customs/

You can clearly see in the video that the donor car is an original DeLorean. That said, they do show a shot of another car they’re building with him that appears to be entirely bespoke.

  • Editz

Hard to believe a custom car shop would pass up an opportunity to have a client pay extra for a LoJack installation.

He got it back. via Jalopnik….

First (and only) time I saw a DeLorean in person was a few years ago in Hollywood late on a Friday night, on one of those narrow side streets that I had pulled into to avoid the busy main streets. It was just cruising along and then disappeared down another side street.

I later lived in Garden Grove where there is a DMC “dealership” (actually just a shop that specializes in fixing and restoring them) but never got around to going to take a look. It would feel pretty silly to go there just to get a look at one of these cars.

I guess there’s one you see from the trolley on the Universal studio tour too but I’m not sure if that’s even a real one.

When he made the money to afford to buy this by producing such execrable garbage, I find it very hard to have any sympathy for him.

It’s a shame that it wasn’t actually stolen and somehow used for a positive purpose.

I once sat in a DeLorean, terribly uncomfortable cars.
