Sam Raimi is involved in a lot of projects these days as a producer and director, but the last time he actually wrote us something was 2009's Drag Me to Hell. He'd like that to change, and in an interview with Shock Till You Drop, he revealed that he and his brother Ivan (his co-writer on Drag Me to Hell) were currently writing a screenplay for a new horror movie, but it's still in the early stages: "It's a very simple story about a character, we're trying to figure out what they want, it's all of the basic stuff - how they come involved with this darker force. There's nothing much to tell [yet], I've got a three-page treatment we're working off of right now." And that is all the fiercely generic red meat we get for now... which we'll all gladly take. It's just nice to know it's happening. (via Shock Till You Drop)

Drag Me to Hell is a shameless rip-off of 1957′s  Night of the Demon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Demon or an uncredited adaptation of MR James’s “Casting the Runes” depending on how you look at it. There is no reason not to credit it, since it’s in the public domain.

Dana Andrew said prunes gave him the runes
and passing them used lots of skills.

Rocky Horror came out when I was in college. Had a friend that was so steeped in trivia that he knew then what those lines were referencing (virtually no one else did at the time). This was the type of person who would say, “Let’s go to the Armadillo tonight. There’s this new band playing in costumes and wearing kabuki make-up!” With the rest of us going, “What the hell is kabuki make-up??”

It’s got to be 101 times better than Drag Me to Hell before I’m interested.

I enjoy Raimi’s films but I walked out of Drag Me to Hell half-way through. The third(!) time someone vomited into another person’s mouth was enough for me…

Ditto. Might want to come up with a story before deciding that you’re going to do a movie about it. DM2H was such a disappointment. I’d be a lot more confident if he said there was this movie that he’s always wanted to make and that he’s had in his back pocket for years. A “three-page treatment” does not give me much hope.

“Another”? I daresay he still needs to write his first.
