You're paid to be personal and subjective, and what other reaction does one have to art but a personal one? I think "This movie is based on my autobiography, and here's what I think of it." is a perfectly fine first sentence for a review. Even better would be if he hated it.  And actually wouldn't a movie based on Ebert's life that was awful be more interesting than one that was earnest and well crafted? Obviously anything he would write about this movie can’t be regarded as objective film criticism. But don’t you want to read it anyway?
