I stopped cigs 20 years ago and started cigars about 6 years ago - I have now stopped (well from 3 a day to about one a month) - it was surprisingly easy for me - thus far. Stopping cigs was tough i still recall, and my fear was that cigars might lead to cigs again, but no.
I love the vid as it conveys the fellowship that occurs with cigar smokers. If only everyone could smoke cigars together - peace out........

There is a kernel of truth in there. Polonium-210 is one of the many carcinogenic components of tobacco smoke, and it can originate from the phosphate fertilizers used on tobacco crops (as well as naturally occuring in some soils).

If you smoked corn leaves, you would probably accumulate polonium in your lungs in the same way as smoking tobacco, if the corn growers used as much phosphate fertilizer as the tobacco growers (which is apparently not the case).

It's utter bullshit.

The nasty chemicals created by combustion make up the bulk of carcinogens from smoking tobacco -- benzene, formaldehyde, etc. You'd get similar chemicals (albeit in different proportions) from burning any plant.

I've never heard of that link (fertilizer > radiation > tobacco > cancer). Got a link to info?

Given how much MORE fertilizer is in, oh, say corn, and how much more of it we consume, where this a viable theory I would think we would see an even stronger link between corn and cancer. Maybe not - educate me.

"It also isn't fair to compare them to cigarette smokers, as generally there are no additives to the tobacco"

There aren't flavoring additives, but they are still grown with fertilizer that contains radiation, which is largely what makes tobacco cause cancer.

I used to love a good cigar. It really is an art form to make them. You can tell when yours was rolled by someone who knew what they were doing.

It also isn't fair to compare them to cigarette smokers, as generally there are no additives to the tobacco, and you don't inhale. 100% safe? No. But everything in moderation shouldn't kill you.

Martinez Cigars are make some of the largest-diameter production cigars in the world... as large as 120 gauge (about 2"!), where a typical cigar is around 40 gauge or so. The larger cigars are very, very difficult to roll so they burn evenly. They're very popular with some gay men, and one of the cool things about the retail shop is not only is it multiracial and cross-generational, it's also quite gay-friendly. Alas, the ladies tend to be more marketing than customers.

It's a shame he uses his artistic talents making items that kill people (although it is not as bad as cigarette smoking). Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_effects_of_tobacco#Cigars
