Shanghaiist reports that "A Japanese man had hot noodles thrown on his face while another had his eyeglasses snatched on a street in Shanghai as anti-Japanese sentiment surged in China over a territorial dispute in the East China Sea."

China’s new “territorial waters” claims are outrageous indeed.  They’ll be claiming the Golden Gate Bridge soon.  http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7934138.stm

Of course – they just want the gas deposits like everyone else including the Russians and Koreans.

Then they just cherry pick something from a war or an old treaty to justify the claim and bolster domestic support. The people of China aren’t getting the truth about their home country from their government, so there’s no reason to believe they’d be getting even trace elements of truth about any other country.
Everyone wants the last of the fossil fuels y’know?

When you actually see it on a map, it’s quite shocking.

Depends where you’re from. I’m quite used to seeing places under our rule quite literally on the other side of the planet. Countries just don’t know how to organise a good Empire any more.

The country Antinous is from actually “owns” huge territories *inside* other countries — as well as islands on the other side of the planet. Not sure why he’d be “shocked.”

Who said anything about being shocked? Im not really sure what your point is.

That, of course, validates China’s claims to the territorial waters of every other country in that region of the world.

Woh, I just checked out the map. The contested zone is right next to Scarborough. Cant wait for Yorkshire to get in on the action!

The China will not claim GGB, but the native Americans may do.

relations have been described as sour, yet at the same time sweet.

They’ve been known to occasionally turn pungent, but that’s one side.
Relations from the other side of the negotiating table are more… savory.
