Why do I find this whole affair extremely distasteful? Because unlike other reality shows where the protagonists are adults at least somewhat capable of making informed decisions regarding their lives, Alana Jackson (yes she has a name) is not.

At the end of the day there's a child here. A child being manipulated for profit by her family, a production company and a television network. And I don't believe that a single concern for her welfare or best interests have even remotely crossed their cynical minds.

So now we have a 7 year old, deliberately set up to be the butt of the joke amongst us, the more "cultured" audience, I believe this meets the definition of abuse.. The girl doesn't stand a chance against the profit machine that's destroying her childhood and the viewing public are playing right along with the game.

Sadly, yes. As someone who owned a 78 Pinto in the 90s (with power everything, an 8-track, and a bumper sticker that said "Foxy Grandma"), I heard all of the jokes. NOT BITTER

There was a point in my life where my main source of calories was pasta. I have nothing against it, but adding sugar-laden ketchup and a truly ridiculous amount of fake butter just seems wrong.

When I was eating nothing but pasta, I usually just made it with a little bit of parm and a lot of black pepper. Total cost (including cheap "parm" from Wisconsin) was maybe $2.50.

Margarine and ketchup on spaghetti? Good lord.
Well, you've obviously never lived on food stamps. I've dined on that particular dish many times.

The added creepiness comes from Walken putting on his glasses and looking just a little bit--just a tiny bit, but tell me that you don't see it once I point it out--like Kim Jong-Il.

Real-life cars don't explode on impact. That went out with the Pinto. You're going to need an AT-AT.

I have this sudden impulse to turn the wheel quickly, head-on into the oncoming car. I can anticipate the explosion. The sound of shattering glass. The... flames rising out of the flowing gasoline.
