Thanks for the insight; I didn’t realized Small World was also from the World’s Fair. The pavilions actually were moved from the World’s Fair to Disneyland. CoP was then later moved from Disneyland into a new building in Disney World . Some good reading:

OK, I’m old.

As DW/Epcot was being built, this attraction (GE pavillion?) was picked up lock stock and barrel at the end of the 64/65 World’s Fair in New York and moved to DW -along with the insipid Small World (the fair’s “Pepsi Pavillion”) and the one that’s, I think, inside the Epcot dome that brings you through time: in the Fair you rode a Chevy or Ford -I forget. I was 10 when we went to the fair.

I think there were one or two other attractions from that fair that went to DW.

Hi Loren,

Yes, I’m referring to CoP in it’s current Disney World home. We visited the old CoP site in Disneyland on our honeymoon 6 years ago, and yes it was sad. It sounds a bit like Innovations in Epcot. It’s funny, Carrie was said to me the other day “It’s sad that CoP is no longer in Disneyland,” to which I responded, “What are you talking about? If it were still in Disneyland, you would never get to ride it.” We live on the east coast, so trips to California are pretty rare.

You must be referring to DisneyWorld because the Carousel of Progress at Disneyland was sadly turned into a Carousel of Income-Generating Advertising many, many years ago.

Instead of watching an Audio-Animatronic stage show, at Disneyland’s CoP you get to watch a gaggle of DL employees watch you as you make your way from sad museum-type interactive displays to a wall of XBOXs to an entire floor of Microsoft products laid out in a “house of the future” if that house is brought to you by Microsoft.

I wish I could be there! It is my favorite, and when our children were little, it was the one attraction other than it’s a small world on which they were completely comfortable. We see it every time we go at least twice! I have seen it with both theme songs. The preshow video outside the attraction that no one ever watches includes “Now Is The Time.”

150 on Saturday. I’m checking with my event partner to see if we can gather as many of our people together and get over there. Can’t guarantee that I can get everyone, but I will see what I can do. It’s one of our favorite rides too.

I have only been to DW once, in 1987, but I loved the Carousel of Progress.Went through it three times? It was sponsored by United Airlines at the time, and I still get “you do have wings….. with United!” stuck in my head, alongside a particular smell of hot dust.

UPDATE: dang, do I have the wrong sound/smell stuck with the wrong ride? All I can remember is the Carousel.

Carrie was introduced to CoP after the switch, so it’s the version she knows and loves. Now is the Time can still be heard throughout the park as instrumental background music.
