Actually, the scariest moment for me was when I clicked on one of the clips and got a screen full of snow with the text “This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated.” Not removed or locked or disabled, but _terminated_. The MPAA. Be afraid. Be _very_ afraid.

circa 1975-ish, summer. Windows open curtains aloft from summer breeze, trying to stay awake to watch SNL on old b and w TV in my bedroom, sleep past it to wake up to a late showing of Salem’s Lot. What scene you ask? The one where original lost boy, Lance Kerwin is floating in front of friend’s window beckoning him to invite him in.

Scared me immediately back to sleep. Recently tell 13 yo son who has been begging me to tell him what was my scariest movie memory, refused to tell him ’till now. He immediately shows me the Simpson’s spoof.

Just the commercials of “The Grudge” with the blue boy keep me from being able to go to bathroom at night without having to wake spouse to “escort” me.

I lost trust in this list at #3. I would argue that “Signs” was a great movie that was totally creepy (unseen stalker in the farmyard at night?) right up _until_ they showed the video of the aliens. Then the whole movie went downhill rapidly, and was not scary at all any more.

Depends on what you find scary.

Do you find an atmosphere of paranoia, claustrophobia and the threat of imminent death or losing your very humanity scary, then it is.

If you find cats randomly jumping out of the dark at you scarey, then it’s not that kind of movie.

Hey BB …is John Carpenter’s The Thing really that scary? I haven’t watched it yet because I’ve heard it really IS scary, but then again it’s from the 80′s and I figure it’s maybe aged and mellowed a bit.
