the huge irony is that when newer rappers had progressed to the next level of skill, Moe Dee, in much the same way as Busy Bee, didn’t recognize and was himself served by LL.

From what I understand, this was really a watershed moment in the evolution of what it means to be an MC. Previous to this, the MC really was a “master of ceremonies”, whose focus was on crowd interaction, highlighting the DJ and dancers, etc. Rhyming was there, but it wasn’t the most important thing. Afterwards, Moe D’s more musical, spitfire rap style really took over and the rhymes really moved to the forefront.
