While she isn't the only cast member of The Walking Dead to have an artsy side job (Norman Reedus is a filmmaker when he's not killing zombies), Danai Gurira seems like one of those spectacularly well-rounded and adventurous people who wants to do a little bit of everything as long as she walks this planet. Hero Complex interviewed the actress, who is also an Obie Award-winning playwright (for In the Continuum) and has forged a whole other, zombie-free career path writing about her life in Zimbabwe and other stories. It's one of the most fun pieces I've read about Gurira, and Walking Dead fans might like to know that she discusses certain (horrific) things that happen between her katana-wielding character Michonne and the Governor in the comics. She has a perspective on it that others probably don't. (via Hero Complex)

When she isn't nerding out that the holidays are coming, Jamie is a reader at Monday Night Fan Fiction at Fontana's in Chinatown, NYC (next date: TBA, 7:00 PM). All work is original, written by the readers, so if you have a brilliant fanfic idea stuck in your head, send it via Twitter: @jamielikesthis

I know this kind of commenting is frowned upon, but, HAWT!

Walking Deadfans might like to know that she discusses certain (horrific) things that happen between her katana-wielding character Michonne and the Governor.

We might also like to know about that spoiler.

Responsibility of the other, linked site, really. The quoted sentence above spoils nothing specific, plus if you can read it constitutes all the spoiler warning you could reasonably need, it just doesn’t contain the actual word.

      • dbergen

Responsibility of the other site? Did they post it here? Of course it’s a spoiler, we now know that shit is going to go down between two characters.

        • edkedz

Wow. Well, for something that vague to qualify as a true spoiler (one that actually can “spoil” the enjoyment of a story) it could only apply in the case of someone with a truly ridiculous level of spoiler oversensitivity, one so excessive as to not merit any consideration.

    • chumpmeat

It says “things that happen between her katana-wielding character Michonne and the Governor IN THE COMICS.” [emphasis mine]. Which is not a spoiler for the show.

      • dbergen

My mistake, I did not realize that the two are unrelated.

        • chumpmeat

Spoiler alert: Daryl, Merle, and T-Dog don’t exist. And one of the Governor’s goons is going to shoot Lori and the new baby to death.

My point is that the TV show is telling the story its own way with no claim to fidelity to the comic, which anybody who’s been paying attention at all knows.

Since the article doesn’t mention this, if you want to see her in a very different role, check out the excellent 2007 movie THE VISITOR.  Directed by Tom McCarthy (THE STATION AGENT), starring Richard Jenkins.

And a bit of trivia:   Tom McCarthy directed the unaired pilot to GAME OF THRONES.  Which is why he has a consulting producer credit in GAME OF THRONES.

I find it awesome that two of my fav characters on the show are also creative artists outside of their acting career… nice!

Oh good I needed some proof, thanks.
