Next Thursday, the first of our new International Maker Meetups is happening. The idea here is to get makers all over the world together, to talk about the latest issue of MAKE, and making in general, hang out with like-minded people in your area, and hopefully have a lot of fun. The main subject of this meetup will be 3D printing and our just-printed Make: Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing. We will be hosting a face-to-face meetup here in Sebastopol and other people are creating their own meetups around the world. We will also be doing a Google HOA at 6pm PST/9pm EST on the 15th that you can tune into and perhaps become a part of. Participants at the meetups will get a free PDF copy of the Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing. If you want to set up a meet up in your area or want to join one, visit the MakerMeetup page. We hope you’ll participate.
Whether you’re a designer, inventor, hacker, tinkerer, or weekend DIYer–anyone interested in finding out more about 3D printing and design is welcome! We suggest getting together at convenient locations such as a hackerspace, coffee shop, community center, library, or restaurant. Bring your laptops, tablets, smartphones to access the Internet and G+ Hangout On Air. The first 25 organizers will receive a MAKE meetup welcome kit that includes: 12 copies of the MAKE Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing, MAKE T-shirts, notebooks, stickers, and buttons. The top 3 organizers with the highest number of RSVPs will get a $200 stipend for beverages and food!

Dyson Logos’s G+ account is an endlessly scrolling inventory of hand-drawn D&D maps, each one cooler than the last.
For years, Geoff Manaugh has entertained and fascinated us with his BLDGBLOG, and now he’s even better at full-length, with A Burglar’s Guide to the City (previously), a multidisciplinary, eclectic, voraciously readable book that views architecture, built environments, and cities themselves through the lens of breaking-and-entering.
You know, for your Star Wars/Mary Poppins mashup theme wedding! $550 from Etsy seller The Blonde Swan, who makes them to order, and will also do you a BB-8 bowler (same price) if that’s your thing. (via Geeks Are Sexy)
Almost everyone has their smartphone in a case of one kind or another. Beyond simple protection, finding a case that can charge your phone on its own, but doesn’t feel like it’s also adding a couple pounds to the phone’s weight is the tricky part. Billed as the world’s thinnest battery case, the ThinCharge iPhone […]
You never know when new projects, ideas or opportunities can drop into your lap at a moment’s notice. That may require you to learn a new programming language like Python. Or maybe you need a primer on 3D game development. Or you might realize you could use a serious brush-up on iOS mobile creation.Point is, […]
Isn’t it about time to stretch what your Mac can do? I mean, you’ve got plenty of great programs now…but don’t you think you could use some new tools to get your creative, analytical and organizational juices really flowing? It’s spring, so we cleaned up a whole bunch of super-cool apps lying around and packaged […]
