Our friends in the Tea Party have revealed President Obama's sinister plan for a "United Nations-run communist dictatorship in which suburbanites will be forcibly relocated to cities."

On October 11, at a closed-door meeting of the Republican caucus convened by the body's majority leader, Chip Rogers, a tea party activist told Republican lawmakers that Obama was mounting this most diabolical conspiracy. The event—captured on tape by a member of the Athens-based watchdog Better Georgia (who was removed from the room after 52 minutes) —- had been billed as an information session on Agenda 21, a nonbinding UN agreement that commits member nations to promote sustainable development. In the eyes of conservative activists, Agenda 21 is a nefarious plot that includes forcibly relocating non-urban-dwellers and prescribing mandatory contraception as a means of curbing population growth. The invitation to the Georgia state Senate event noted the presentation would explain: "How pleasant sounding names are fostering a Socialist plan to change the way we live, eat, learn, and communicate to 'save the earth.'"

It can happen here: the horror of Agenda 21

And the alternate reality keeps truckin’ on just like nothing at all happened last Tuesday.

    • TacoChuck

The funnier part to me is, literally every item listed under the Obama plan is a scheme to funnel money to corporations, and are not “socialist” or “communist” in any way, shape or form.

      • wysinwyg

Well, it’s technically socialist under some definitions of “socialist”.  Ask a libertarian.  But you’re right that it’s not what most people who call themselves “socialists” have in mind.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_KHCUTUOZ2YXERCXQQN324LZSZY Mike

          Libertarians ARE socialists.

          http://anarchism.pageabode.com/afaq/150-years-of-libertarian

          • wysinwyg

Very interesting, thanks.  Though I’ll probably keep using the common usage of the term and just call anarchists “anarchists” so that people will actually understand what the hell I’m talking about.

        • http://twitter.com/noahtron noah saber freedman

libertarianism is just anarchy for the rich.

          • wysinwyg

If only.  Libertarians are dead-set against “force” — as long as they get to define what “force” means.  Starving people or making them homeless aren’t considered “force” by libertarians.  As a result, a libertarian who would insist that taxation is theft would have no ethical problems getting what they want by denying food and shelter to those who need it.  So it’s not a way to dismantle hierarchies (if it was it would be anarchism), but a way to enforce them on terms even more favorable to the very rich than rule of law already is.

            Feudalism in other words.

  • http://pocketprogressive.org Uncle Geo

Please, please, PLEASE, my tea party friends and relatives, keep drinking the Koolaid! The wackier tea partiers get the more people see how truly nuts they are. I’m bummed Michelle Bachmann is back in but in a way, we need to her to fly the crazy flag.

    • acerplatanoides

I think it’s best to just feed them. Tell them they’re right about you. They’ll tire out by nap time.

    • http://twitter.com/intensitystudio Antonio Carrasco

       NO. We don’t need Bachmann.

It is really sad that this whole country has  an “us vs. them” mindset, with the batshit crazies getting all the attention.

What we really need is moderate republicans AND democrats who can actually AGREE on things sometimes and actually get things done!

  • ChicagoD

    “Expand markets for agriculture”

My God, the man has no morals. Now I see that he *is* a “Socialist.” They’re ALWAYS talking about “expanding markets.”

    Sheesh.

    • Green Ghost

Are they talking about selling chickens to bears? Because all humans already buy agricultural products!

      • Jellodyne

        I never touch the stuff.

      • Antinous / Moderator

Are they talking about selling chickens to bears?

In my experience, bears are rarely into chicken.

        • http://instantaneousinstances.com/ Spieguh

Actually bears are omnivorous, pretty much eating whatev….OOOOOHHH, waitaminute, I see what you did there

  • Boundegar

Not only will suburbanites be forcibly relocated to cities, they will also be made to watch BET.

    • Scott Slemmons

Cripes. Why is it always MY state?

These guys hail from a party which is frequently said to be led by a guy with a three-hour radio show whose followers call themselves “dittoheads,” and they’re worried about Obama’s mind-control/brainwashing?

    • http://instantaneousinstances.com/ Spieguh

Hey, it’s only brainwashing when the people doing it are *wrong*

    • Origami_Isopod

It’s not always your state. Sometimes it’s Mississippi. Sometimes it’s South Carolina. Sometimes it’s Louisiana. Sometimes Jesus throws a curve ball and it’s Arizona or New Hampshire.

      • Florian Bösch

        Damn those Jesus curve balls.

Something like 2.5 million people die in the US every year, giving us a rough total of 12.5 million people that have died while Obama has been in office.

As we’ve been in a recession for most of Obama’s term in office, I think it’s safe to conclude that all of those deaths were caused by starvation due to people being unable to find work.

Basically, Obama is worse than Stalin. He’s done NOTHING to keep people from dying.

    • morcheeba

I literally can’t name a single person he has administered CPR to…

    • Origami_Isopod

Something like 2.5 million people die in the US every year, giving us a rough total of 12.5 million people that have died while Obama has been in office.

Apropos of nothing, anyone else remember “Bill Clinton’s Dead Friends,” the email (or Xerox for the teabagger set) that went around in the late ’90s?

  • archanoid

WTF is wrong with some people…

  • vonbobo

seriously? there are so many things to be critical of Obama, why the heck does someone need to go to these lengths?
    Sad

If I got rewarded for talking crap*, I’d talk a lot of crap.

      * – without saying the n word

    • IconoclastTwo

I was thinking the same thing; with all of the things that Obama is actually doing wrong, why does it seem like in my lifetime I’ll never see the Republicans actually criticizing any of them instead of crackpot insanity like this?

  • http://excelsior-station.wikidot.com Sarge Misfit

hmmmm …. “stripped landowners of property” … isn’t that a bank foreclosure?

“centrally control agriculture” …. I don’t know, I keep hearing the name Monsanto alot …

Oh no thats different! That totally legal Raptor capitalism where nature and well being of people are exploited to further Monsantos plans to monopolize the “market”.

  • IamInnocent

A comparison which shows how much O. has nothing in common with either of the two above him still proves… what?

    • Snig

It proves he’s stealthy and devious!  The total absence of evidence revealing a hint of his plans just shows how deep and far ranging the conspiracy must be in order for it to have been undetected for this long. Don’t fall for it, Sheeples!

Gerdehmit Oberma, we worked really hard to scare those fascist straights from the city now you want to bring them back!?!
This is a traversty. A TRAVERSTY.

  • http://twitter.com/amanicdroid Dr. Chronobiologist

Tea Partiers don’t understand that “One of these things is not like the other” always includes 4 different items for comparison?

No surprises they supported Willard Mittens “I hate Sesame Street” Romneyshambles the VIIIth.

Why did I move back to this state, and why have I not left yet?

  • Michael Langford

As a Georgian: I request you send kudos for distilling and concentrating the weird stupid right fringe for the rest of you all, and sucking it up into one state.

    • http://twitter.com/amanicdroid Dr. Chronobiologist

This is why we keep sending you and the south federal aid.

      • acerplatanoides

Yes, believe me when i tell you that the northeast is a socialist hellhole where the hookers are free and give you obamaphones that you can use to buy drugs from the illegals at our coffee shops, we also dance to the rock and roll up here.

    • Lupus_Yonderboy

You and Florida need to have a talk, I can’t keep my eyes on both of you at once.

  • UncaScrooge

I call shenanigans here: A true tea party patriot doesn’t actually know anything about historical communist plans and policies. Knowing what comprises Stalin’s Five Year Plan simply taints your intellect with communism. This meeting is obviously an attempt by the communist party to impart communist-tainted “knowledge” into the sturdy skulls of right-wing coffee clutches. I weep for our country.

  • Rob

Every once in a while, they take crazy to a whole new level.. it transcends partisan political conspiracy theories and becomes a sublime expression of something new…

This is like the scene from a John Woo film… where everyone has infinite bullets, gallons of blood, and all the explosions have white doves instead of shrapnel…except political, and involving party leaders.

I have to say I love it. I want it made into a movie, where Obama’s preserved zombie head strides around on a robot body made entirely of the bones of old people he’s put to death in his Obamacare Camps, wherein he both impregnates screaming white women and aborts their fetuses in one deft move.

Wherever he goes a fog composed of the ashes of rich people’s stolen money and burnt bible pages rises up to obscure the world in a Obama made hellscape…

There will have to be lots of minorities too. It will be epic..

Gotta say Stalin did a nice job there, doing a five year plan in two years.

(And, less snarkily, can we add “Defeated the Nazis” in his plus column?

    • ChicagoD

After the way he liquidated the army leadership while the war was imminent, then punished returning POWs for being taken prisoner, let’s just leave it as a wash.

      • http://thisisonlya.blogspot.com robcat2075

I think the logic in his mind for that was, “Another war is coming, and I’m going to make sure NO ONE thinks about surrendering next time.”

Whatever, a couple million dead and frozen supermen does not spell incompetence.

    • acerplatanoides

I grew up hearing my step-dad and his crazy brothers spouting this one government agenda crap (the U.N. is just the first step!). This garbage goes back to at least the early 1900s. The Tea Party’s thoughts are nothing new here. Sadly I kinda supported the Tea Party when they were still nebulous & unformed. They had decent ideals. Until they got on the fast train to crazy town.

  • GyroMagician

So the Tea Party are crazy. We all know they’re crazy. It would be hard not to notice. So how is it they have a place in mainstream political discussion? Who actually supports them? I really don’t get it.

    • acerplatanoides

Maybe when they look at a map they see Georgia surrounded by former soviet nations. It would explain the panic in their eyes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=188000688 Jonathan P. Allen

Here’s the thing: Obama’s regional rural plan will probably lead to bad stuff, as it is in all probability simply another way of integrating (to an even greater degree) rural economies to the corporate capitalist world system. Nothing conspiratorial in that, mind you- since the early nineteenth century systems of state and capital have been using a wide range of ‘public-private’ (the current euphemism) to bring marginal communities, markets, natural resource reserves, and so on, into the full capitalist system.

Obama’s policies are corporatist (like pretty much every POTUS before him to lesser and greater degrees), which is to say, capitalist- the rise and expansion of capitalism (be it ‘private’ or fully state-run as in the USSR) has always depended upon state intervention and support. Rural economies are brought to heel, either slowly and quasi-voluntarily, or through the deployment of direct, violent force (think past and current ‘land grabs’ and enclosure movements).

The Tea Party, then, is on the right track, sort of, in being suspicious of these things. They go off kilter, however, in imagining some sort of sinister secret agenda and God knows what else being planned, when in fact the processes by which states forcibly and implicitly expand centralized capitalism are neither hidden nor mysterious. They aren’t advertised, though they could and should be. I think that many people in the Tea Party, like many people in liberal movements, have their hearts in the right place- a mistrust of centralized power, a desire for greater liberty and autonomy, a love of local communities and place, and so on. There’s a lot of false consciousness and downright craziness mixed in there, on both sides mind you.

    • Boundegar

Also, they have noticed that the President is black.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=188000688 Jonathan P. Allen

Sure, some Tea Partiers are driven by overt or residual racism. But it would be simply reductive to attribute everything to that, or to imply that every Tea Partier is just an embittered racist or is only driven by a fear of people of color. That would be like suggesting that the only reason people in the Middle East support Islamist or other radical movements is because they hate infidels or something, when in fact all sorts of sentiments and ideas are driving such movements, from socio-economic concerns to religious to the flatly xenophobic.

I’m not say most, or any, Tea Partiers are going to come out swinging against the forces of global capital or against the police state. I’m saying that some of their sentiments point in such a direction, and that with dialogue and education, some such folks can drop the kookiness and false consciousness and move in a more positive and constructive direction, alongside other people from across the political spectrum.

This has already happened, I might add, in some particular situations. Tea Party types came together with radical greens, civil libertarians, and other to defeat a recent proposition in Atlanta that would have looted taxpayers to line corporate pockets and wreak environmental and social destruction. Likewise, some of the opponents of the Keystone pipeline have come from Tea Party or Tea Party-like ranks. So it has happened on a limited scale, and can happen on a larger one. Or at least I hope so.

      • buddy66

Which means his dick is bigger than theirs. Never overlook the psychosexual roots of angry  Southern racism.

And I hope everyone recognizes that a state that has produced R.E.M., the B-52′s, and Terrapin Brewing, just to name a few of the good things to come out of Georgia, must be doing some things right.

  • DJBudSonic

This talk of Agenda 21 stuff would seem crazy, were it not for the fact that it is a real UN document, and that many of the things that are supposed to be done to conform to the documents goals are being done, at the local, state and federal level. Many of the goals do seem to go just beyond the development of a sustainable planet, favoring government/corporate control over essential goods and services, as opposed to human rights and reasonable freedom of choice.  Especially worrisome are the sections on food and water, which Boing Boing has covered in the past:  the seemingly odd reaction of local governments to front yard gardens, for example. Similar restrictions on food self-reliance are part of Agenda 21 documents.

    • http://daruiburns.tumblr.com/ Dlo Burns

The most outlandish part though is that people think the UN has any kind of staying power over anything.

  • Frank Diekman

Soooo…Based on the graphic, they’re implying that Obama is a communist dictator because he’s doing things that are completely different from what past communist dictators did?
