I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Yes! This is wonderful. Foreign NGOs really should stop with the ‘white man’s burden’ monologue (not that they are all guilty of this), and instead help with supporting existing locally run organisations.

This is exactly the kind of humour that Norwegians are famous for…  Heh.  Great find!

/I can claim a bit smugness (smugicity?) here, as I never purchased any of the help-for-Africa discs or CDs preferring to donate the full amount and more directly to a charity.  I do, however, own a copy of ‘Starvation/Tam Tam pour l’Ethiopie’. It’s just great music!

“If we say Africa, what do you think about? Hunger, poverty, crime or AIDS?”
And windows that never need plastic, and driveways that never need shovelling, a wonderland where food can grow all year long and the sun never goes down earlier than 6…

    There’s a whole website:  http://www.africafornorway.no/

Also a website for the country “band” (Bretton Woods) that wrote the lyrics for the Radi-Aid song: http://www.developingcountry.org/

I feel like “Pimp My Aid Worker” is relevant here:

Dress your aid worker up as an angel, an explorer, or a tourist!
They also have a delightful song.
