Avi sez, "I came across this Turneresque painting of Mumbai Local Trains by Bhuwan Silhare. Not much info about the artist online."

Bhuwan Silhare Mumbai Local Trains 2010

I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

    Turner who?

    • Thorzdad

I’m assuming Cory’s alluding to J.M.W. Turner, who was famed for his landscape paintings featuring very atmospheric skies, seas, etc. Once again, though, it’s a pretty inexact allusion.

I think it’s pretty clear that Turneresque does indeed mean “resembles a JMW Turner painting” here.

As for the picture itself, it’s terrific but is it really a painting?

Looks a lot like the effect you get from Polaroid transfer – Maybe 2 shots layered?  It’s very nice, either way.

The Flickr link states that it’s a photo.

No, It’s a photo of the painting. I found the source here:

Imagine my embarrassment…  I saw  “Turneresque” and thought Ted and colorization.
