Harry Osborn will be besties/worsties with Peter Parker in a Spider-Man movie once again, but this time, James Franco simply could not build himself a time-turner to make himself available. Instead, for Marc Webb's sequel, Dane DeHaan will take over the role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, set to begin shooting early next year. DeHann is best known for his superpowered role in Chronicle, but has also made appearances on HBO's In Treatment and, most recently, Lawless and Lincoln. The sequel, for which Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will return, might also possibly feature Mary Jane Watson, and Shailene Woodley's name has been mentioned as a contender for the role.

And in case you didn't hear, the script will be written by the guys who brought back Star Trek, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. My fangirl heart is positively a-flutter!

Another “Amazing Spiderman”?  I think it’s time for a franchise reboot.

Yeah that shit’s so last year … in a couple of weeks.

“My fangirl heart is positively a-flutter!”

Why, did you enjoy the giant swollen hands panic attack or the Willy Wonka in the pipes or the time traveler who only time traveled once or the ear monsters from Wrath of Khan or the Beastie Boys in the future leap out of a moving car and just stop never mind physics or the snow monster that escaped from The Phantom Menace or the ice planet with one last tree that old Spock cut down that just happened to be where young Kirk was beamed to by young Spock. Ugh it was so filled with “stupid” you couldn’t see anything but.

    • RedShirt77

Don’t forget that it was an ice planet with a view or Vulcan, and where Scotty was stationed (and despite the solar system recently acquiring a black hole, Scotty and non-verbal associate were searching for sandwiches rather than recovering the escape pod jettisoned onto the planet and getting the fuck out of dodge before their little paradise is consumed)   Also, nice point on the stupid torch.

    • RedShirt77

Oh and there is the whole “storm in space”  stupidity, where in one scene they determine that the storm is the wormhole opened by the black hole in the future, but then in future scenes the ship randomly spews out a storm because it became their trademark thing to do…

Also, the villain blames Spock for his entire planet being destroyed along with his wife…  Apparently because the supernova came early that year….  So the plan was that Spock would turn the Romulus sun into a black hole and that would have solved their problems….  But rather than just kill Spock and save his wife and planet, he goes on a revenge mission to destroy earth with nothing but a mining ship…  With the most advanced armament the future has to offer.

Although I do have to day the writers kept it fast pace enough that most absurd plot holes and terrible logic problems wiz by so quickly you only sorta wonder what the hell just happened.

kurtzman and orci also wrote “revenge of the fallen” and “cowboys and aliens”

    • Donald Petersen

Ah, yes.  And The Island.  Plus a couple of movies about robots that transform into vehicles and make messes.  And The Legend of Zorro.  And hey!  Are they rebooting Van Helsing with Tom Cruise?!  Oof.

Man, I was extra-disappointed with what they did with Cowboys and Aliens.  That should have been a difficult concept to screw up, and yet they managed.  Royally.

Why has it taken me so long to realize that these are fellas whose work is to be avoided?

I think I’m having a bit of Spiderman fatigue. It is time for some new series that aren’t simply reboots. I think Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere or Marvel 1602 would make amazing movies. Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns* would be incredibly epic. Or The Preacher. There are another 100 ideas that don’t fall into the traditional comic canons and are original.

    • Donald Petersen

I’d still watch Preacher, but its day has passed.  It’s a genuine bummer it didn’t get made while the gettin’ was good.

I want to see The Boys on screen before Simon Pegg is too old to make a convincing Wee Hughie.

Frank’s Dark Knight got an animated feature treatment.

With Robocop as Batman no less.

I can’t believe that I didn’t know about this! I have got to check this out. Thanks!

So does Spider man only have like 4 comic books? It seems like the only bad guys are Sand Man, Lizard guy, The 2 goblin father and son dudes, and emo spiderman. Can the movies not find more interesting bad guys?

    • http://twitter.com/frederikvdz Frederik

They did, Elektro is the bad guy in this movie. Harry Osborn is simply himself, a character in the storyline not the Goblin bad guy character.

    • RedShirt77

They did Doc Oct and sandman in there too.
