But all that other stuff is in parallel with the LEDs and resistors. If you have (say) 2 resistors in parallel, the total resistance uses the formula:
Rtotal = (R1 * R2) / (R1 + R2)
So if R1 == 0, the total resistance == 0.

I can only think that the wires don’t have a good connection..

If it were simply a single wire across the terminals, it would be. However, the LEDs and resistors (the beige thingys) provide a more controlled energy release through the circuit via heat and light.

I love the Magrittian phrase “This wasn’t really a tree… I just twisted the wires and moves around the components to make it look like a tree.”

Surely every artist should be required to put that on all their work. “This isn’t really a lady’s face, I just smeared paint around on a canvas to make it look like a lady’s face.“
