My take away from this: I am going to make sure that pulled pork and a BBQ sauce fountain are served at my funeral. Perhaps the buffet could be on the casket.

Seriously, we should do what we can to put the "fun" in funeral.

Hopefully I'm not the only one who has thought about my own funeral. I'd rather not have to think about it seriously for a very long time, but occasionally I'll imagine it, and I'd like it to be a raucous, celebratory affair with a lot of laughter.

Admittedly I've never felt like laughing or celebrating at anyone else's funeral, but when I die I assume people will be willing to grant my last wish and decorate my coffin with bumper stickers that say things like "I'd rather be breathing."

I saw a british version of this a few months back. It was funny, respectful and even entertaining. And it was also gut wrenching, when we followed a single mom with terminal cancer, planning her own funeral, so her two daughters shouldn't have to.
It was a great show, because they didn't turn it into pure entertainment or housewife porn. [edit] Oh, and they followed funeral homes of different religions as well, showing the rites and mourning processes.
Not sure how TLC's version will come out, though. Some of the stuff on that network...

I actually think this is a good idea — I don't understand why funerals are formulaically set up to be depressing, we could use a shift.

I've been wondering of all that reality TV has covered, what's left?

But I digress. The fork that needs to be stuck in the carcass of American TV is long overdue.

Best FAILED reality show ever: P.I.Moms:

http://www.diablomag.com/Diablo-Magazine/April-2011/The-Setup/index.php?cparticle=8&siarticle=7#artanc

Starts with a fraudulent reality show premise with an attempt to bamboozle the press with phony surveillance ride-alongs and passes through People Magazine and Dr. Phil before fetching up against a crooked cop selling confiscated drugs through the PI. Oh, and all the moms quit.

Reality is way more entertaining than it has any right to be.

"Unscripted." I do not think that word means what you think it means -- judging by my hours of watching Duck Dynasty.

Does anyone remember how TLC used to have shows like James Burke's "Connections"? I even seem to remember Desmond Morris' "The Human Animal" on in there.

The BBC is having real success airing serious, and seriously cool, science shows, they are a plausible model to follow.
Must Discovery Communications soil every project they have with tinges of apocalyptic meteors and viruses, artificial and gratuitous "suspense", black hole marathons, pumpkin chucking and whisker wars?
