If there was any reason to look forward to this exact time next year (besides the fact that no one will be talking about the Mayans), it's this: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues will hit theaters on December 20, 2013. Let the year-long party start NOW. (via Vulture)

When she isn't nerding out that the holidays are coming, Jamie is a reader at Monday Night Fan Fiction at Fontana's in Chinatown, NYC (next date: TBA, 7:00 PM). All work is original, written by the readers, so if you have a brilliant fanfic idea stuck in your head, send it via Twitter: @jamielikesthis

Year-long party for a sequel to that over-rated pile of steaming mediocrity???

    Sorry, busy.

    • dculberson

Or, “HOW DARE YOU ENJOY SOMETHING I DON’T ENJOY!!”

      • Preston Sturges

The crime was that a lot of talented people wasted their time on the original movie.  Every SNL alumni thinks they are Christopher Guest, and if they just get a bunch of their pals together, magic will happen.
What made the Marx Brothers good was that they worked in Vaudeville. By the time a routine went into a movie, they might have refined it during a hundred live performances.

Are you serious?   I said how I feel about it–kind of a thing in a comments section.  I could give a shit if you enjoy it, just like I could give a shit if you enjoy posting sanctimonious nonsense in all-caps.

It’s made with bits of real panther, so you know it’s good.

  • Damian Barajas

Even my die-hard Will Ferrell friends are not excited… :(

First prize: Anchorman DVD. Second prize: Anchorman and Anchorman 2 DVD box set.

a lot of boing hate for anchorman–and i know how it goes because that’s how i respond on a kevin smith thread.  but i thought the original was frequently hilarious and i’m looking forward to the second one.

    • vonbobo

I just couldn’t get past the lack of any counter balance to the characters’ dumbness- there is zero contrast (other than MORE dumbness).

I get that is what they wanted, and it works for a lot of people. It just left me flat- I don’t think I laughed once.

      • noah django

         Veronica was the counterbalance.

  • sebastian6

I simply do not get what all the hype around Anchorman was/is. It’s such a broadly played schtick with zero subtlety that I didn’t laugh once.

    • robotnik

“60% of the time, it works every time” is not exactly The Three Stooges.

    • noah django

I, too thought “eh, this is a bit overplayed and obvious,” at first. but once it made me laugh — and mightily I did laugh — the spirit of utter ridiculousness carried the rest of the show. Plus, the clothes were awesome.

    Stay classy, Boing Boing.

    Seriously?

  • Kenmrph

Yeah, a bit surprised that Anchorman is in the BoingBoing wheelhouse.

I have the “Will Farrell is Funny” gene, which causes me to perceive Will Farrell as funny, whatever he does.

The original Anchorman was funny in a lowbrow way.  Beer may enhance the effect.

Will Farrell is funny in everything but that slop Elf. I love Anchorman, favorite line is probably. “Come on Baxter, you know I don’t speak Spanish.”

  • signsofrain

Wow… Anchorman is probably one of my all-time favourite comedies! I do not grok the hate!

“I’m in a glass case of emotion!” ”I love lamp”"You’re so wise. You’re like a miniature Buddha, covered in hair. “”I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”"Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.”"Brick, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you’re probably wanted for murder. “”I’m Brick Tamland. People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks. Years later, a doctor will tell me that I have an I.Q. of 48 and am what some people call mentally retarded. “

Well, if it’s anything like the original, I won’t need to see it, as every single line will be quoted incessantly.

    • signsofrain

“Rosebud” – well, I guess I don’t need to see Citizen Kane!
“I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle” – Ditto Terminator 2!
      “He’s a nut-bag! Just because the fucker’s got a library card doesn’t make him Yoda!” – Well, that’s Se7en in a nutshell!

      • Antinous / Moderator

To be fair, “Luke, I am your father,” does pretty much cover that whole trilogy, let alone the movie.

      • http://www.facebook.com/DasKlaun Rich Bowen

The difference being that those movies didn’t have Will “Jar Jar Without The Ears” Ferrell.
