    I have seen a number of aerosans from WW2 that the russians used to good effect during the winter.

    Man, that Davis (lower photo) was rare. (Wikipedia says only 15 to 17 were built.)  Only reason I knew what it was, is that it was in a book called Auto Album that I had when I was a kid.
