I write books. My latest is a YA science fiction novel called Homeland (it's the sequel to Little Brother). More books: Rapture of the Nerds (a novel, with Charlie Stross); With a Little Help (short stories); and The Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow (novella and nonfic). I speak all over the place and I tweet and tumble, too.

Having never encountered the PDR before, I went to their site and browsed a bit and read their mission statement. From what I can tell, PDR is a somewhat random collection of web links which link to Archive.Org and Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons material. Other than being collected under the public domain heading, I’m not exactly seeing how PDR “showcased” material is any different from items on Archive.Org (etc) itself or any other number of compilation websites. Also, how is it possible for a website to go $20,000 into debt in about two years? If this were a brick and mortar operation I would not throw good money on bad…so I hesitate to donate now. I do appreciate the Swedenborg “erotic dreams” post, though…and the site is nicely designed. Best o’ luck!

I have been a big fan of the Public Domain Review from the very beginning. In particular because it is so much more than a ‘somewhat random collection’. If you look a bit closer they have managed to find a couple of great authors that write about history using the public domain images.
They have done a great job showing all the briljant stuff that is part of our shared culture and there is hardly anything similar to be found online (correct me if I’m wrong).
