Absolutely asdounding. I knew I heard some Skinny Puppy influence in "Call Me Maybe!" I now include this fact in a blog post I did with some artwork as a tribute to this: Call Me A Hole: Nine Inch Nails + Call Me Maybe = Awesome, with credit to this post as well. And what an incredible look at Ogilve's process in the soundonsound article. He's a real craftsman.

I remember my first reaction to NIN was that it was singalong pop music with distortion in some places. Which is fine, but it just makes this less surprising to me. I dare someone to find a way to mash up early Swans with... anything. I can't see how it could be done.

A friend pointed out to me that David Ogilve did the mixing on 'Call Me Maybe' so these two songs were perhaps only separated at birth:

My background in industrial music definitely helped in achieving this. I was trying to get the same feel in ‘Call Me Maybe’ as in a Nine Inch Nails song, making sure it had a pop sensibility, but with people not even noticing how aggressive the kick drum is.
