Gawain Lavers shot this short video of El Pulpo Mecanico at Pier 15 in San Francisco. It was part of the festivities to celebrate the grand re-opening of The Exploratorium.

Let me add a shout out to the awesome makers responsible!

I’ve seen it both years at Burning Man. Definitely the best use of junk ever in the history of the world.

If I had my way, this sort of contraption would operate somewhere in every city 24 hours a day.

It really is one of the most amazing mutant vehicles in the history of Burning Man. It’s responsible for a fair bit of facemelting, jaw-dropping bogglement on my part, and was a primary motivator to getting involved with the Burning Man DMV…

Srsly, I keep saying El Pulpo Mecanico is possibly the most Burning Man thing ever made. The fact that it’s all operating off of one central motor just boggles me… it’s too bad those pics indicate that folks couldn’t get too close while he was shooting fire.

Well, technically the Exploratorium isn’t re-opening until April. But they did do this and they are taking exhibits and other fun stuff to different neighborhoods in the meantime…
