Depressed Cake Shop: a pop-up shop selling grey cakes to raise money for mental health charities

Miss Cakehead writes, "The Depressed Cake Shop will be like nothing ever seen before as it will sell ONLY grey coloured cakes. Raising money for mental health charities, it will also provide a platform for discussion of the illness. The pop up is based in the UK but with other events starting to be planned around the globe."

The Depressed Cake Shop

    1. Why? They look delicious and it’s for a great cause. It makes me feel bad that I can’t be eating one already!

  1. I suspect that while this is clever, it’s probably not good marketing. People are more likely to buy food if it looks colorful. Maybe they should decorate their cakes to look like anti-depression meds!

      1. I’ve never needed to find out whether they work or not, but many common meds (Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac) are neither round nor white…

  2. I think this is a wonderful idea.  Beautiful!  I would buy so many of these if they were available in NYC (and I believed in the charity).

  3. I’d want to see just how much money actually got to the place intended and exactly where it went.  There’s a lot of folks out there making a healthy living off of collecting charity money little of which ends up going anyplace useful.

  4. The money is going to The Mental Health Foundation in the UK and like charities where hosted abroad. I’m
hosting the Glasgow Depressed Cake Shop, the cakes are being made by
professional and hobby bakers alike who have all been affected by mental
health issues in one way or another. Baking is great therapy and a way for people to express themselves. The cakes will not only highlight the effects depression can have on a person – but hopefully get people talking about it.
