Giant blue cock adorns Trafalgar Square

Charlotte Higgins, for The Guardian:

"There is simply no other way of putting it, and nor would earthy British wit have it any other way. A giant bright-blue cock – its feathers proudly upstanding, its coxcomb as stiff as a pennant in the breeze – has been erected in Trafalgar Square, London, and no double entendre is too good for it."

On Facebook, Dylan Tweney suggests that it's the sort of lead paragraph one would want the hear spoken in an overwrought British accent. Indeed, British news announcers have a special tone of voice just for this sort of thing.

And a great quote from Boris Johnson, London Mayor, during its unveiling: "If you were to Google it in a few years time, you will probably not be able to find it because the search engine would collapse at the behest of the Prime Minister. Feast your eyes on this! "
