A fishing boat swept away by the 2011 tsunami in Japan has been returned to its owner, two years later. Mainichi reports that the 5.6-meter-long craft was spotted off the coast of the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa in June, 2013, then disappeared "due to weather conditions."
The boat was then seen again in the waters off Sakai, Fukui Prefecture, on Aug. 3, and was retrieved at that time.
The drifting boat had traveled over 5,000 kilometers:
"I thought the boat was gone. It's moving to see it returned," 56-year-old fisherman Chiyoshi Murakami, owner of the fishing boat, said with joy when he greeted his old companion on Aug. 30.
