RIP, Henry Morgentaler, Canadian abortion pioneer: Doctor Henry Morgentaler, who pioneered safe, legal abortion in Canada at great personal risk and cost, died today at 90. Canada is a better place for the work he did. Here's a photo of me and Morgentaler when I was 4 1/2 years old.

Basil Wolverton's Bible: the putting the grotesque into the Old Testament: Basil Wolverton produced a series of Biblical illustrations, collected by Fantagraphics in a volume called The Wolverton Bible. Wolverton wasn't just a funnybooks illustrator: he was also a member of a millenarian evangelical church called the Worldwide Church of God, a sect that believed in obeying Old Testament lifestyle laws and the literal truth of Revelations
