Speaking to India's NDTV during a visit to the country, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg said Facebook takes user privacy seriously, and blames the backlash over a recent psychology experiment on sloppy communication.

"We communicated very badly on the emotions study," she told NDTV. "We hope users understand that we care about their privacy… We want to be transparent and give users control."

She said the experiment "was small, over one week," and claims it was conducted in a way that "protected privacy."

"Facebook cannot control emotions of users. Facebook will not control emotions of users."

That's so reassuring. I feel so much better now.
