TSA aviation tax set to double

The TSA is taking the brakes off the tax it levies on fliers, doubling (and more) the charge built into your plane ticket.

The new charge — which may still be blocked by Congress — more than doubles the fees charged on each leg of your flight, and removes the previous cap on the charge, so a flight with many hops could rise precipitously. Overall, the average domestic US plane journey fare is set to rise more than 5% on the charge, which will raise an estimated $16.9B over ten years (these estimates are often low).
