Martha Stewart digs drones

On lifestyle media goddess Martha Stewart's personal blog, some lovely aerial shots of her farm taken with a popular model of UAV quadcopter.

One of my security detail, Dominic Arena, recently purchased a DJI Phantom flying camera. These drone-like, radio controlled aircraft are lots of fun to play with and they take extraordinary photos. However, controlling them takes practice and getting used to. Since my farm has lots of open fields, Dominic thought it would be the best place to get acquainted with his new toy. The results were amazing! Browse through the photo gallery below and leave a comment. I’d love to know what you think about the photos, but also what you think about drones and the various ways they can be used in the future!

This is pedantic of me, but it is okay to just call the DJI Phantom a drone. No need for "drone-like." Not all drones drop bombs! Some just take great photos.

  1. IMHO, that device is not a drone, it is a RC Aircraft. Drones can fly autonomously outside of LOS of the operator.

  2. She has a "security detail"? My my.

  3. As noted, she is a media goddess..
I like that she has a donkey paddock. smile
The photos are cool, I dig the farm.

  4. It's a fancy name for bodyguards. Lots of celebrities have them because there are a few real crazy people out there. They really aren't hired to take bullets for people, but just to keep some distance between the public and the celebrity.

Fun fact: John Lennon fired his bodyguard shortly before he was shot because he was tipped off that right wing crazies were planning to kill him and he didn't want anybody to die for him.
