White rhino subspecies is down to one breeding male

Sad news from Kenya: the northern white rhino subspecies is down to one breeding male with the death of Suni this month. Only six remain.

Suni was born in the Czech Republic at Dvůr Králové Zoo, then moved with the other surviving white rhinos to a conservancy, where he was protected from poachers around the clock. According to National Geographic, despite anti-poaching efforts, more rhinos were poached in 2013 than in any time in modern history.

Suni may not have left any offspring, but it wasn't for lack of trying on his part. RIP Suni!
