I tend to think of Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid as the Platonic ideal of mermaids, but these beautiful drawings by Tumblr artist Sully are making me reconsider my preconceived notions.
Her ongoing series depicts mermaids from all different kinds of cultures and eras, and they are so much more interesting than yet another cookie-cutter, vaguely European mermaid.
