Castlevania director tortures a dude in Kickstarter video for new game

Koji Igarashi, the father of Castlevania, just launched a Kickstarter for a spiritual successor to the classic gothic horror games, and the accompanying video is bonkers.

The new project is called Bloodstained: Ritual of Night, and the video for its $500,000 Kickstarter opens on Igarashi lounging at the end of a table in what appears to be Dracula's castle. "You may be familiar with my legacy," he says Igarashi, shortly before smashing his wineglass on the ground. "I have been gone far too long. And now it is time for a resurrection." Also, he faux-tortures a guy on the rack while explaining the tiered system of Kickstarter community support, and turns into a flock of bats.

Although traditional game developers who turn to Kickstarter for backing have a somewhat checkered history, there's a lot of excitement around Bloodstained, where you will play as a character named Miriam, "an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse which slowly crystallizes your skin." If funded, the game will aim for a March 2017 release on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Mac and Linux.
