First look at CBS' Supergirl is very promising

As part of its Upfront presentation, CBS released this extended trailer for its upcoming series

Supergirl. This is essentially a cut-down version of the show's pilot, which stars Melissa Benoist as Superman's cousin Kara Zor-E. Other than a weird meta moment where it tries to justify the use of "girl" rather than "woman," the trailer looks pretty fantastic. It establishes the show's cheery, cheeky tone and colorful aesthetic plus it indicates Benoist is more than capable of leading the series. The fact that one of the show's central relationships is between Kara and her sister has me even more excited.

It's also really refreshing to have a female superhero who's not a brooding spy and/or assassin as has been the recent trend with Black Widow, Mystique, Gamora, Peggy Carter, and most of the women on Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. I love those tortured ladies too, but it's about time we had a female superhero who's super jazzed about her powers.
